The spreadsheet acts as a list of the assemblies and parts that make up your product, arranged in the current hierarchy from your CAD.
If this is your first time managing Parts Categories for the product, then this will reflect the original CAD hierarchy.
If your CAD Hierarchy is unorganised in your Native CAD creation software, then this will show in your CAD hierarchy in the Partful Platform. This Parts Categories step is designed to re-organise your CAD without altering your native CAD File and Digital Thread.
Below is our hierarchy for our V8 Engine on the demo platform.
Yellow: Is the existing hierarchy in the CAD file.
Green: Are the details already uploaded into the Partful platform, such as type, Engineering Part Number, Sales Part Number, Part Name, and quantity.
We have articles on:
Blue: is where you input what you want your hierarchy to be named.
What can you edit, and what can't you edit?
Important Note: You do not need to/should not change anything, including and to the left of the “Quantity” column in the file (shown in red below). You only need to populate the “Combine Assembly with... Category” and “Category Levels” columns in the file (shown in green below) to apply the changes you want to make.
Important Note: Your Parts Categories file must be saved as a “CSV” (comma separated values) format when you are finished working on it.
