3D Parts Catalog Onboarding Process

In this article, we'll take you through the critical stages of our onboarding process, from data transfer to content creation, and all the way to the final review and sign-off. By the end, you'll have a clear understanding of what to expect.

Welcome to Partful, where we believe in making your journey with us as smooth as possible. We understand that embarking on a new partnership can be both exciting and challenging. That's why we've designed a streamlined onboarding process that ensures you're set up for success right from the start.

Our team will be on hand from the very first kick-off call to onboard your products and create the most pleasant experience for you.

Your customer success and onboarding team consist of:

Onboarding team

Our team have years of experience in working with CAD and BOM as well as technical expertise in 3D technology to take you through the process step-by-step.

They will be on hand to answer any questions you have along the way.

And our onboarding is completely included in the annual subscription.

2. Onboarding process

  • Account set-up:

As soon as you’d like to proceed with us, we will set up a kick-off call to discuss project details.

  • Data Transfer:

Let's start with the foundation of your 3D parts catalog: data transfer. This crucial step involves your team sending your CAD data and BOM (Bill of Materials) data (xls., csv.) to our team by uploading them onto the platform (See our Accepted CAD file formats here). Our goal here is to make sure that we have all the necessary information to create an accurate and comprehensive 3D parts catalog for your needs.

What data should be included in your CAD files?

Model in 3D 3D model of the product in a CAD file format
Part options/variants (if any) 3D model of any interchangeable parts, i.e. Road Tyres vs Off-Road Tyres
CAD part number Ideally, this should match the part number in the BoM so that we can easily match them. This will enable us to be efficient and automated in creating the updated parts catalog for you.
Assemblies List of parts that are sold in a group and separately, we will need the Part Number for the assembly as well as all the parts inside of it
Materials/textures What the part is made of (e.g. Black Leather, Aluminium, Red Rubber) so that we can accurately replicate the realistic look of your parts and models

What data should be included in a BoM?

Part Name Display name of the part you are selling
Part Number The sellable part number (ideally from your Service or Sales Bill of Materials, not your Manufacturing Bill of Materials. This is to ensure that your sellable part details are correct.)
Part Description Any extra information that you want to put to the part (For example, Power Cord - US Variant vs GB Variant)
Price The price of the part
Assemblies Part Number and Name of the assembly and the parts inside it
Kits A set of parts that are commonly sold together but may not be near each other on the model
Merged parts/sellable parts Parts that come in the CAD separated but need merging into 1 part to be sold correctly
Supersessions (if any) Old / superseded part numbers that are no longer in use but have got an updated part number.

For your branded user interface, we also need:

  • Data Review:

Now that we have your data, it's time for collaboration. We believe in working closely with you to ensure that your CADs are correct and that the data is up to date. This collaborative effort is crucial to building a strong foundation for your 3D parts catalog. We want to make sure we're on the same page every step of the way.

  • Content Creation:

Once we have the groundwork laid out, it's time to dive into content creation. We're here to help you curate and onboard your models. Our team of experts at Partful specialises in creating 3D content in-house. Our team will ensure your models are animated and textured correctly. This means you can trust us to deliver high-quality, tailor-made content that meets your specific requirements.

  • Review & Sign-off:

Your input matters, and we value your feedback. After we've crafted your 3D content, you'll have the opportunity to review it thoroughly. We encourage you to provide feedback, ensuring that the content aligns perfectly with your vision. Once you're satisfied, it's time for the final sign-off, marking the official launch of your 3D parts catalog.

Our onboarding process is designed to make your after sales transformation as smooth as possible. From data transfer and review to content creation and final sign-off, we're with you every step of the way. We believe in open communication and collaboration, ensuring that the end result exceeds your expectations.
